Engineers relish old engine craft - BBC News
Halfie did a great little piece of single-handed video journalism for BBC TV last year about the centenary of the Russell Newbery canal boat engine brand. And yesterday it finally aired on BBC Look East and can now be viewed on the website.
It's well worth a click-through, and you won't begrudge a single one of the 153 seconds.
RN Chief Engineer Allister Denyer, engineer Eddie Green and commercial director Brian Jarrett all get screen time.
I wish he'd stay in work mode when he steps aboard his shared ownership boat (and blog) Shadow and do some more waterways-oriented videos, but I can understand if it feels like a busman's more than a boatman's holiday.
That's just what I was going to add as a comment, and I see Halfie beat me to it! Well, it was his documerntary after all.
** Happy New Year **

Well, my mother said that one thing I inherited from her father was his tendency to laugh at his own jokes, and I confess I did that on this occasion too.
That reminds me - I remember my grandfather, mortally ill with lung cancer when I was just ten, telling me jokes and then rocking with a laughter that then turned into a gurgle followed by a hacking cough, and clutching his chest but trying not to grimace. I guess it taught me that I had to choose between joking or smoking.
Presumably vintage engines allow you to do both!
