I've been thinking about the different themes people use for naming their narrowboats.
Whimsy rules these days. In the working boat days there was little room for whimsy, and Dunwirkin wouild have been frowned-on, if not worse. (Is there anything worse than being frowned-on? In the good old days of Victorian Values, before all this employment law fairness guff, it was usually the final warning before a sacking.)
Of course, the name's oririgin is obvious here. They are retirees, and nothing is going to stand in the way of SPENDING THE KIDS' INHERITANCE, and good for them!
The photo here was a snatched shot, taken out of the 3-inch tall top louvre of my boat saloon window at Wolverton a couple of months ago. Hence the dark smudge at the top (the catch to the top of the window) and the bottom (the aluminium rail).
Not perfect. But good enough to illustrate the point. Which is, always have your camera ready. Even at 2mph, a boat is often too fast to photograph when close up, especially when you don't know it's coming and your face is buried in the first coffee of the morning.
No worry's Andrew, it had to be "alternative," just can't help myself...
