I have never tried racing but I have tried overtaking on the top level of the south Oxford Canal once. I was single handed and wanted to get to The Wharf at Fenny Compton to meet my wife for lunch. A dawdler beckoned me past. Never again. It wasn't worth the near collision, sucking water from beneath me and and angst! They were in the bar ordering a pint about thirty seconds after me!

That was very funny.

Though I don't think I really want to try it with The Robber Button.

Some friends and I have also raced in the past- side by side, at night, on a river with piled banks and a high speed limit.

Unfortunately, our BMC 1.8 doesn't have the same "guts" as their Gardner 2LW! We might lose in pure speed trials, but add in some slaloms and maneuvering and the Duck would come into its own...

Rivetting -- Paul Greengrass, eat your heart out!
