Neil on Herbie asks Is This A Record? – a picture of 23 Canada goslings paddling after their mother.
About 18 months ago I photographed 16 or 18 (or possibly more, but surely not many more) adult Canada geese in a row at Windmill End in winter dusk.
When I first posted this picture, someone asked if I'd 'shopped' it.
Well, yes, to the extent of heavily lightening the exposure, since it was very underexposed and I had to salvage it, and I 'removed' an ugly phone mast on the horizon and a couple of tiny ducks in the background.
But every goose was there in place, I hadn't added any, and they really were following the signpost - I DIDN'T fake it. I like to think I'm just sharp-eyed and quick on the button, that's all. If I'd faffed about with exposure and positioning (and umbrella; it was pelting down with rain) I'd have had even less of a photo.
And so it was with Neil. He didn't wait either, and his photo is, yes, a record, and rather better exposed than mine.
