Sutton Stop and the Greyhound Inn, Hawkesbury Junction, 7pm, August 4th 2007.
I missed out on the shot I originally planned. Half an hour before, I was chatting with three policemen at the new police station, which occupies the old toll house at the Junction.
I'd hoped to catch them as they strolled across the bridge, and wanted them to stand above the 'Britannia Foundry Derby' sign and wave. (Actually, they didn't know about the 'wave' bit, but I'm sure they'd have done so if I'd prompted them. People do, I'm a good director).
But I was too slow in getting my boat to the bridge, and bored with waiting for me - and eager to get back on the beat - they strolled off. And I was left with three friendly but featureless gongoozlers instead.
The building is now 100 years old and the police were there today as we passed.
It use to be the office of the coal mines and use to issue orders for loads.
