Near Norton Junction, Oct 8th 2006. The crew of Willow Wren's Crane study their copy of Pearson's Canal Companion. Judging by their boat and their location - deep in Buckby Top Lock - I'd guess that either it's the Oxford & Grand Union edition, or the South Midlands edition. Or else they are very lost.
I note that Crane is available for hire next week, price £995, accomodating up to 12. I'm not sure if the price includes a copy of Pearson's, but at that price I think it ought to. Pearson's canal guides should be like the Gideon Bible, supplied bedside for free on every canal boat.
Absolutely true. I think Pearson's unique style of canal guide was what first caused me to fall in love with narrowboating, back during my first ever experiences of hire boat holidays.
