BWML takes over Glasson Basin - Lancaster Guardian
A family's 40-year stint running Glasson Basin Yacht Harbour has ended with a takeover by British Waterways Marinas. The late Peter Latham managed the business, which can handle up to 220 craft, until 1993. Wife Barbara then took over. Now British Waterways Marinas Limited (BWML), which already operates 15 similar centres across the country, has bought out the firm.
I'm not sure if this is as recent as the newspaper presents it, but somewhere I feel there's a story lurking about BWML. They now have sixteen marinas mooring basins around the country.
Glasson Basin isn't naturally canal territory - the old Glasson Marina website (still up) says that it can take boats up to 82' in length, and that overall boat length includes "Bowsprit, Pulpit, Pushpit and Davits".
I don't know what Bowsprit, Pulpit, Pushpit and Davits are. (Certainly Granny Buttons doesn't have any of them herself. She has buttons front and back, obviously, and I remember I had to remove those briefly to get her to fit through the Salterhebble Top Lock two years ago.) Could they perhaps be the name of the firm of solicitors employed by BWML in the takeover offer?
