Another hen's tooth on the market, this time for rent only: Someone has available a cute-looking 45-foot tug-style narrowboat near Marylebone on the Regent's Canal.
NB Percy is quite the cute little 'Rosie & Jim'-type, and appears to be based at the canal basin just by Lisson Grove.
The location is not quite as picture-postcard as Little Venice proper but it's very close by, and within walking distance of Marylebone Station. If you are a devout muslim (I've not seen any afloat on the canals yet, perhaps because there are far too many canalside pubs to tempt?) it's just a short stroll to the London Central Mosque.
Unsponsored link: Little Venice, St. John’s Wood High St and Church St antiques market all nearby.
Paul, I guess once google thinks its important for a particular
phrase, it becomes immortal.
In this case, early on it acquired high ranking for the phrase
'narrowboat for rent' & because people keep adding comments, Google
assumes it's still relevant for the phrase.

For heavens sake you would have thought that this would have died a death by now but still ... If you want to rent a boat in London do your research first and make sure you do it right as the rip off merchants are still out there. Even ones that have been mentioned before that then swore that they wouldn't be doing it again having ended up in court. And still people are ending up out of pocket and worse. People, wake up and take those rose tinted specs off.
If you want to hire or rent a boat do not do a private deal but go to a reputable hire company or suffer the consequences and no it's not cheap. Living on a boat is never as cheap as anyone thinks and living on a boat in London properly isn't that much cheaper than renting a flat. In fact, you might be better off buying a boat rather than renting but make sure you are either prepared to cruise and commute long distances or get a mooring. Start at www.waterscape.com and then expand your search.
Best of luck.

Hi, this thread seems to run and run. If you want to rent a narrowboat do your research carefully as not all is as it seems as there are rip off merchants out there. If anything sounds too good to be true don't do it, boating isn't as cheap as people think it is. Do your research very very thoroughly before making your choice, check with the navigation authority where you intend to hire as well, ask people, check the towpath telegraph, work out your budget and what you want from the experience and what you are capable of in terms of boat moving and all that physical stuff that goes with boats like toilet stuff (if you need to ask you haven't done your research!). Then go for it and hopefully have a lot of fun and not end up out of pocket with your fingers burnt.

As the owener of a narrowboat, I can only warn prospective tenants and owners to deal with the below 'company'. My experience with them is that they are totally unreliable and not trustworthy!

Hey Stephanie,
Call 0207 985 7200 and request a London Boating Guide and also visit www.waterscape.com and click go boating. Be vary careful out there and check thoroughly that whoever you rent from is a legitimate operator. Friends of mine got their fingers burnt rather badly. If you are unsure about anything check it out with the local navigation authority. British Waterways look after the Regents Canal through Camden. Moorings are like hens teeth to find and they are not cheap.
Best of luck in your search.

Hi there,
mature student awaiting sale of my house, have just bought 30ft narrowboat to live on whilst studying and desperately in need of a mooring in birmingham/coventry/warwick/nuneaton/brinklow/banbury area - nearer to coventry/public transport to coventry the better. I did have a marina sorted but then i bought a smaller boat and the marina can only allow me a mooring if i have a bigger boat. any help finding somewhere to moor long or short term would be great as I only have a week until i need to move from london.

Hi
I have a 57 foot narrowboat moored at Sherborne Wharf in Central Birmingham where I work. I stay on board one or two nights a week. I could do with some help on the loan payments so if anyone else is looking for a part time boat residence in Brum I am sure we could come to an agreement.
