Finally, after over half a year, there's a second canal boat blog. And at last, something which justifies being on a 'Boatroll', as opposed to simply a list of boat sites. It would have been the third, but Su of Cutworks seems to have discontinued her boating blog after the trial month last October. So, congratulations to Narrowboat Phoenixx!
Phoenixx (the spare x appears to be a nod to it being the second boat of that name in the family) has some unnerving parallels to Granny Buttons. It's a 60ft trad boat powered by a BMC 1.8, it's a 3/4 finished owner fit-out, and the new owner is having a few worries about finishing it. And some of his thoughts on the ideal boat seem to measure alongside my own too.
I was especially interested in the site of the first Phoenix (if the idea of a 'first Phoenix' isn't a contradiction in terms.) He (the reborn Phoenixx's owner) has put pretty much the entire history - accounts, building records and cruising logs - of the original Phoenix online, stretching over some sixteen years, and all downloadable as pdf. Such diligence augurs well for the likelyhood of him keeping a blog as a cruising log for the new boat, although it appears that much of the diligence is due to his late brother, the owner of the first boat.
The concept of how to keep a good and reliable log - and how to benefit from it - is something I'd like to return to.
