Halfi, An interesting point, thanks!

The URL here was the original draft one for the post, and I only changed the headline at the last moment before posting, before anyone had commented.

The recent upgrade of Typepad (complete with threaded comments) does now allow me to change the URL if I wish, and technically it shouldn't make a difference. Still, you could well have found a bug with their programming!

I'm going to undo the new comments system (which allows threading, links, icons and formatting such as bold/italic) and return to the old plain text comments for now.

Just a thought, Andrew, could it have anything to do with the fact that the url of your "paint your wagon" post is this: http://www.grannybuttons.com/granny_buttons/2009/11/graham-learns-how-to-look-after-jannocks-paint.html
which seems to have a different title? If you change your post title at some point do comments end up in a parallel universe?
