Towpath Tidy for 2009 is from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th March. Waterscape says:
Each of BW's nine regions has a Towpath Tidy volunteer co-ordinator. Find out who your local volunteer co-ordinator is below, and see how you can help.
There are nine BW regions, but ten coordinators contacts are listed. The bonus Towpath Tidy seems to be the Droitwich Canals restoration, which is having its own mini-Towpath Tidy.
This is surprising when you consider how the Droitwich restoration is still in progress, and how close to reopening it is. Can it really be so scruffy already? Perhaps they need volunteers to clean up after the BW contractors?
Email or phone the organiser of your local TT and ask to lend a hand on the last weekend in March – it's a very good cause.
On the other hand…
Why not stick a few spare Tesco bags in your pocket every time you go out canal walking? It'll be like having your own private Towpath Tidy, and you can even pretend it's your own private BW region or private canal restoration.
You won't need to phone or email anyone in advance and you won't be called upon to sign any disclaimer or wear any pointless hi-vis jerkin or elf-n-safety lifejacket or protective goggles (unless you want to). And it's always in a good cause.
I'm talking rubbish, obviously.

"Why not stick a few spare Tesco bags in your pocket every time you go out canal walking?"
I don't want a medal but I do follow this advice. I hate the rubbish left on our mooorings and in the adjacent park by the revellers at the weekends. I don't understand why they leave the empties from a pack of lager next to the waste bins rather than in it! It doesn't take much to remedy the situation but I guarantee that many dog walkers will already have passed by on the other side before I get to them!
