Rosie and Jim in narrow dog escape after Macclesfield Canal wall collapses

Dog owner almost went to the wall - Macclesfield Express

Narrow dogs are in the news this week.  How appropriate that after Terry Darlington's Jim, this one should be named Rosie - and her owner is called Jim too!

Jimmie Henshaw, 43, was taking his whippet Rosie for an early-morning stroll along Macclesfield Canal last week when the retired rescue dog suddenly halted, pulling him back.

And just at that moment, a two-ton mass of earth and solid rock came tumbling down the bank like an avalanche, right where he would have been standing if it were not for his loyal mutt – who, it turned out, had stopped for a toilet break.

This is the second time that the Macclesfield 'great wall' has collapsed in recent years.

Pennine Waterways has more (inc. a couple of photos) here.

I think that the bit of wall that came down weighed considerably more than two tons! There are two photos from different angles on Pennine Waterways!

And I was thinking - Gosh, the dog had an inkling of danger, some sixth sense honed during its rescuing days, and saved its owner from near certain death just in time - but no! It merely wanted a pee!
