Gryphon
Claymoore Navigation has a new hire boat this season that they were in the process of fitting out when I left last month.
Claymoore's boats are mostly named after castles, abbeys or other English countryside features, although one is named Alice in honour of Lewis Carroll, who was born and grew up in nearby Daresbury, and another is called Cheshire Cat.
Indeed, their very logo is a Cheshire Cat.
Does this determination to find the correct spelling mean that their next boat is to have an Alice in Wonderland name or theme too?
I guess they were just giving the signwriter a few cautionary tips before sending Gryphon to the paint shop.

These spellings are an in-joke on the very fact. I think at the moment the shell has 'Kev's Boat' written on it. Gryphon (which will definately be spelled correctly) will be a new day boat when it enters service this year, alongside the other Lewis Caroll inspired day boat, Mock Turtle. There is a second shell currently at Claymoore which will turn into Bridgewater Hall when it goes into the fleet. Lots to be done and so little time.

Claymoore might well need to give the signwriter a few tips. One of their boats was last year given the name Consol(sic ) Forge because the signwriter didn't get it right!

(This reader twiddles thumbs, considers emergency counselling, looks at pile of marking and reports and contemplates starting on them, cleans house, does washing and ironing from hectic weekend, etc etc etc !)
Having read the 'what I'm doing' window to the right of the page, I think I speak for many people today..:
For goodness' sake, Andrew, save us all from these withdrawal symptoms!!!
Seriously, 'hope the cruise is enjoyable and that you and Granny are well.
Best wishes,
Rosie Robertson.
