The Shrewsbury Chronicle reports:
A new marina-style village [i.e. a canal basin development], including homes, a community centre and a school, is planned for Wappenshall, one of the key points along the line of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal.
The Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust, which is trying to restore the old waterway, was informed of the plans at its AGM on Saturday in Coalbrookdale. The meeting, attended by 80 people, heard that trustee David Crow, owner of Wappenshall Farm which includes a section of the canal, had come to an agreement with national house-building company Redrow...
The plans are for a ‘complete village’ with a community centre, school and homes and the canal would be central to the development.
The S&N (no, not that one, that's an infuriatingly successful enterprise) would be a good treat amongst canal restorations, a delightful shortcut passage to a most pretty town (and the River Severn) from the Four Counties Ring.
